I could think of a million ways to express my pain, but the only words that ever come out are, “I’m okay.” I’ve always been your shelter in the storm, so why did you leave me out in the rain, all alone?
Who can I turn to when the weight of everything becomes too much? I’ve lost my voice trying to be saved by the very people I once would have drowned for.
I have so much love to give and so much pain to endure, but I’ve become an expert at hiding it all behind a comforting smile.
“You’re a language I’m no longer fluent in, but I’ll still choose to understand you.”
I say the words I wish someone would say to me.
I could offer the most heartwarming words you’ve ever heard, but you wouldn’t want to know the thoughts I bury deep in my mind. While I’m crafting uplifting messages for you, I’m bleeding in the spaces between them.
When the skies cry their darkest tears, you’ll find me shedding twice as many, holding onto the pain I’ve kept hidden for so long.
I’m not always okay. Today, I just don’t have the strength to hide my misery.
I’ve spent my life telling others to be strong while secretly struggling to find strength myself.
“You’ve saved so many, but who’s going to save you?”
Five words.
“You, and the one above.”
I always thought I was the strongest, but I’ve discovered how fragile I can be.
In moments like this, I want to remind you to reset. You’re not always responsible for providing peace to others. You can’t give what you don’t have.
I hope you find the strength to face whatever life throws your way. And even if you don’t feel strong right now, I’m proud of you for surviving.
We’re not always strong, and that’s okay.
Being weak doesn’t make us any less of a person. It’s just a sign that brighter days are coming after the storm.
