I was excited to have my own personal phone in my final year of high school. I even brag about it. Because at that point, only the big guys at school had phones. They often brag about it. I, who had an intovert and A-grade student personality, started to feel confident. It doesn’t mean that before, when I didn’t have a phone, I was unconfident. I would say I was above average like I fall into the 90+ category, but a silent one.
At first, everything was fine. I graduated with good marks from high school. I only use my personal phone for youtube video
Everything was fine until I got into college. College can really spoil you. I shared my college story in my previous article. I fell into mobile addiction. It became so severe that I remember one day getting 16 hours of screen time. To think of it now, it was crazy. But at that point, I was in depression, so that makes sense. On average, my screen time was 8–10 hours.
- 6-hour YouTube scrolling.
- 2 hours of watching movies and anime.
I was consuming endless content.
The situation was out of control for me. I multiple times tried dopmine detoxes but after a week or some time I fall back and it wasn’t for me at that point.
I sold my phone on November 21, 2023, almost 10 months earlier. It completely changed my life. I started with small. And I slowly cut down on my bad habits and implemented new good habits in these 10 months of time. I finished my book, Atomic Habits, at the start of this year. And now it is really a manual guide for me to make good habits.
I made habits like
- exercise, which I have been doing for 4 months.
- reading books; currently, I am reading Art and Business of Online Writing by Nicolas Cole.
- also doing graphic designing
Outside of this, In my real life
- I started cleaning my room almost 10 months ago. Now I do dusting every single day.
- I made some particular habits for certain days.
- Like on Saturday, I pressed clothes for my weekend wear and clean my trimmer for my little beard.
