Back in 2019, I was in the best shape of my life. I trained six times a week at a fantastic gym with a personal trainer who was absolutely irreplaceable. But then life threw some serious curveballs my way. Between COVID-19, two job losses, and just an overall sense of misery from everything I’d gone through, I lost my spark.

2019 was my golden year. I was training hard, feeling fit, and loving life. My gym routine was on point, and my personal trainer kept me motivated and pushing my limits. I felt energetic, accomplished, and confident. I even began enjoying going clothes shopping. It was a fantastic time where I truly prioritized my health and well-being.

Then, like for everyone, everything changed in 2020. The pandemic hit, and suddenly, my world was turned upside down. I lost my job twice within two years, which really took a toll on my self-esteem and financial situation. Gyms closed, routines were disrupted, and I found it hard to keep up with my fitness. Over time, I became numb, exhausted, and just overall miserable from everything that had happened over the past few years — I pretty much gave up.

In early 2023, with a new job starting and turning 40 that year, we took a trip to Thailand, hoping it would help me reset and prepare for a big year. Instead, it became a time of deep reflection. I spent ten days processing everything I’d been through. Despite the beautiful scenery, I felt disconnected, numb, and exhausted. The past years came and hit me like a bus! It was there that I realized just how much the past few years had affected me.

When I got back from Thailand, I knew things had to change. With the help of my new role, I started finding new communities and making new connections, as well as some key people in my life who became priceless in helping me embrace myself.

As the months went by, I noticed significant changes in myself. The journey from 2019 to now has made me stronger and more confident. I realized that prioritizing self-love and self-care is crucial. These practices are now a key part of my life, and I see their positive impact on my mental and physical well-being. Embracing self-love helps me heal and grow in ways I never imagined.

I also have a lot of heart-to-heart conversations with my husband, during which we work through our experiences, struggles, and emotions. These chats help us see that we’ve grown stronger and are ready to tackle our issues head-on. We’re determined to bring back the vibrant, healthy lifestyle we had in 2019, but this time with even more wisdom and resilience from everything we’ve been through.

With newfound strength and a deeper understanding of myself, I’m ready to return to my healthiest self. My previous weight loss journey was about external factors — gym routines and personal trainers. This time, it’s driven by self-love and happiness. I’m excited to meet the new version of myself, someone physically fit and mentally and emotionally strong.

The past few years have been a rollercoaster of challenges and revelations. From being at my best in 2019, through the lows of the pandemic, to a journey of self-discovery and healing, I’ve come out stronger.

A foundation of self-love and happiness now supports my renewed commitment to my health and weight loss. I can’t wait to embrace this new chapter and meet the best version of myself yet. No matter how tough the journey, self-love and inner happiness can lead to incredible personal growth and a renewed sense of self.
