It has not been exactly a week since the last post and that can be attributed to a few hitches, such as university CATs but we are here now and in full swing. I apologize for that.

This week has been truly eventful and packed, from the last post I made to the post I make today I can say without a doubt I’m different, and not different in the sense that I can write more code than before but that I have become resilient. I’ll come back to that in a bit.

So here’s what happened this week. We left off with me having started with HTML and after grinding the Odin project lessons for a day or two I reached the end, but the end was not the end before I lay a finally boss dungeon. The Odin project curriculum is a hands-on experience because, after every major checkpoint in your learning, you get a nice nifty project that you have to do by yourself that is not a guided exercise. No hand-holding. The HTML project was a quick and easy one and I finished with no difficult time.

Now you may be wondering what occupied the rest of my 1 and a half weeks. On to CSS what a headache and not the whole of CSS, this one fundamental concept of CSS had me in a deadlock, Its name is the flexbox, hearing that word gives me chills. The thing about flexbox is it takes everything you knew about CSS before and throws it out the window, nothing is absolute in flexbox, it’s never straight, suggestion is the name of the game height and width properties are never absolute. I spent a whole night on just figuring out how to position a single div element on one of the Odin excericises after pondering a lot and finding the solution was all down to trial and error. Most of my time was spent reading additional resources, and documents dredging for information wherever I could find it.

Here is a snippet of a landing page project I made at the end of CSS flexbox as proof of my struggles:

Does not look the best and I know I have a long ways to go but I am proud of it. Since its a culmination of all my struggles and its a mark to show where I came from when I look back at it in the future.

It would be an understatement to say it was hard but here I am saying it was fun and enjoyable every step of the way and would do it again if I could, the thrill of finally finding a solution is irreplaceable. That’s why I can say I’m a different person I would never imagine myself sitting down and struggling with a problem most of the time if something didn’t go my way I’d be quick to dismiss it, give up, and move on. Programming has changed me, it’s a way of life that makes one resilient and I have myself to be a testament to that. The initial goal was to spend 2 hours programming outside school but I’ve found myself doing way more than that which is an accomplishment in my books.

As of writing this, I have started on Javascript, finally into “real” programming languages, so let(no pun intended )the journey continue. I think I’ll be focussing more on web development as with the trend I’ve seen I spend most of my time there instead of data science.

As usual, thank you for the read, and I hope my articles may inspire others.
