Your passion may not be what you think

As a teenager, the internet taught me to be successful and rich, saying I needed to find my passion. So, back then, I tried being a YouTuber, musician, and businessman, but none of them worked out.

I felt cool at first, thinking success required this. But I didn’t realize I was just coping. Instead of doing what I love, I tried to love what I do.

I couldn’t keep lying to myself. Bored with the routine and seeing no results, I quit everything, feeling frustrated.

It seemed like I wouldn’t find my passion or success at all. Until I realized, I had been searching for passion the wrong way.

Rather than passion, what I tried to find was results.

Who wouldn’t want to be a successful YouTuber or businessman? It’s a cool profession, and, more importantly, it can make me rich.

But wanting the results doesn’t mean I wanted the process too.

When I tried being a businessman, I wanted to get rich. But I ended up selling products I didn’t understand. I simply bought a course and followed all their tips, including what to sell.

I had to learn about the product, and customers often asked a lot, even if they didn’t buy anything. It annoyed me.

I also promoted my product with ads, but without any marketing skills, I wasted more money than I earned from sales.

I didn’t get what I wanted. So I quit.

Now, let’s discuss it. What’s your real motivation? Is it solely the result? It’s okay if you seek results. But you must also embrace the process, or you might end up quitting like I did.

Before writing on Medium six months ago, I never considered writing a passion. We all know it’s a tough and unpopular way to success.

However, because I was frustrated with having nothing to do, I just started writing. I always knew I could write, but my ego, obsessed with success, blinded me.

Now, I just do what I like: observe, think, and write my thoughts on Medium. It’s cool if I can succeed, but if not, I’m fine. So far, I have no plans to quit.

That’s what passion should be, right? Doing what we love, not just chasing results.

In fact, If we love what we do, success and money will come naturally. Like the saying goes,

“Don’t waste time chasing butterflies. Mend your garden and the butterflies will come.” — Mario Quintana.
